i'm getting ready to set up a tank with a big chunk of driftwood, a bunch of rocks and i want to plant it up pretty well. most of the profiles i see of cichlids i'm thinking about say that they'll all uproot the plants. any ideas of what kind would work well with a planted tank? if not, i'll just go ahead with my #1 choice of nicaragua cichlids right now.

Theres quiet a few species that work in my experience. I keep a planted tank with Severums, but smaller species like Microgeophagus and Apistogrammas are also good ideas. There are several more species that have worked IME, like Angels, Kribs, Discus and Keyhole cichlids.

exactly what ryan said

a nice group of rams would look good in a planted tanks and some angels

i already have two tanks set up that have german and bolivian rams, so i was looking for something else. i heard severums are big diggers also and would uproot plants. i don't think i'm ready for discus yet and i'm not a big fan of angels. i guess i could look back into kribs or keyholes. i'd like cockatoos but i haven't seen those around here. but i have seen a nice green severum at the lfs...

how would a single severum and a couple firemouths work? the tank is a 33G long and before people start shouting that it's too small, i unfortunately will only have the tank up and running for about a year before i have to move and put my fish up for adoption :-( the severum i saw that i wanted was about 2 to 2 1/2 inches right now.
