40gallon tank, biowheel 350pgh, geting some plants (not decided yet). i want to get:
4 Blue Rams
4 Cory Cats
2 Pleco
2 Angels
8-10 Neon Tetra

is this an alright amount for my tank size ?

I'm guessing that's overstocked. You could drop the cories and it should be fine. But without knowing the adult size of all them fish I'm not entirely sure. Sorry.
Hugs,
P.

i would go with-

2 blue rams (4 MAY work out, but not usually)
6 cories
1 or 2 plecos (what type are you planning on here?)
2 angels
and a school of something besides neons since people generally end up with problems..personally, i would go with harlequin rasboras

Miss dib dabs: in a planted tank, you can stock a little more liberally than the 1" per gallon says ;)

ok so
2 rama
2 angels
i am getting a male and female BN pleco
why no corys ? i love those little guys ?
and why no neons ? i think they will look awsome in black gravel & background tank with green plants !
anything else that looks similar and ok to keep, that are small !

If you are going to have angels, I wouldn't have any small tetra. The angels can and will eat the tetras. It doesn't happen all the time, but why take the chance. I think cardinals are a bit bigger, they are definately more colourful than neons, but with the same colours. You could probably get those instead.

Harlequins are also nice. They look good against the green of plants as well.

Don't drop the corys if you want them. I think they would be fine.

i still like my list ;) :

2 rams
2 plecos
4-6 cories
2 angels
4-6 harlequin rasboras/rummynose tetras/serpae or black phantom tetras - somethin like that

I had serpaes in with my angels, and they nipped his fins pretty bad. Rummynose is a good idea as are the harlequins. I like your stocking list too, Abstract. Aside from the serpaes.

hey, thanks for the info. i like all those fish you suggested. i think i am going to drop the angels in search of something else. i am looking for suggestions for that, something larger that i can have a pair of, and will be more top dweller, and colorful.
i really want the neon tetras because they are small, colorful and very active. i liked the suggestions but i am going to have black gravel with black background so i thought the neons would be neat to have for color, if anyone knows any of smaller colroful fish that would be great for suggestions though.
i am getting two BN pleco, so they are small enough to keep two
i really want a pair of discus, but im scared because everyone says they re so hard to keep alive.
thanks!

Cardinal tetras look almost exactly like neons, except they are brighter and get bigger. I prefer them to neons. I have heard you can keep them with angels because they get bigger, but I haven't tried it.

Glolites are nice looking too, with a neon orange stripe. They schoal nicely too.

there's really not much more that i can think of besides some sort of killifish..golden wonder panchax, for instance, would work

Have read somewhere on here very recently that Angels are either best kept alone or in groups of four or more.

Perhaps an African Butterfly fish or two (if two can be kept together :dunno: )

What about Bosemani (sp?) Rainbows? Not large as you require but big enough and lovely looking fish to boot.

Why do you not want Gourami? I have four in my tank and they are great fish. So many different variations too, to match/compliment any tank layout.

Yeah, why no gourami? I've just added 3 honey's and they're great fun! :D

Also, I do like neons in a shoal but they would most likely get eaten by angels. Cardinals are only .5 - 1cm bigger and same goes for glowlights so if your angels aren't babies, they could get eaten anyways.

Oh, just a thought...I was at another store to my LFS on Saturday and they had giant neons? They were pretty big but I've never seen them before so am not sure if they really are neons or if someone has modified the breeding stock in some way?
