Hi .I have a Red sea Max which I am using as a planted tropical tank.I was plauged by hair algae which as now turned to a blanket of fine brown particles on the bottom of the tank and plants after I added a treatment. This silt I have have tried to remove with water changes. What I would like to know is will this silt eventually breakdown and become fertiliser for the plants or should I remove please ?....Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum :)

When algae or plants rot/ die, they give off ammonia (NH3)

plants use the Nitrogen (N) in the ammonia as a food source, but ammonia also causes algae, so in fact you might start the cycle all over again! Your best bet is to remove it.
