A couple of years ago I bought an amazing plant which was wired onto a small bit of bogwood. Well the plant is no more and just have a bit of bogwood withthe wire around it. Actually there are a couple of green stalks on the bogwood, but no leaves and I have given up all hope of reserructing it.

So what sort of plant can I get to replace? How do I attach it to the bogwood?

Also I think my other plants have maybe died as my substrate isn't deep enough and I want to add some more. How do I go about this with loads of fish in the tank? I don't think I can catch all my fish to get them out the way. Can I just add little bits at a time, carefully with fish in situ?

Thanks.

hey...the plants that come to my mind that could attach to bog/driftwood are the varrying types of mosses (christmas and java moss are the most common). You could also attach the anubias plant varieties as well as java fern. These plants must not be buried deep within the subtrate as the bottom layers of the moss, likewise, the main root of the anubia/fern will die off...You can esily attch these plants using fishing wire or in my option, a cotton thread which will dissolve in a few months leaving just the plants attached to it. Make sure when attaching moss to attach only thin layers so enough light can get through to all the moss...After a few weeks, you will notice a quite bushy appearance and regular trimming may be necesary. As for the anubias/java fern, just simply tie the roots to the chosen bog/driftwood you like using cooton/wire and wait a few months for it to self attach before you remove the wire/cotton or wait for the cotton to dissolve...
For your subtrate, how deep is it and what sort of subtrate do you use (pea, gravel, sand etc)??? do you use any fertilisation such as root tabs for your root feeding plants or have you added any nutrient rich subtrate such as laterite etc??? Maybe your plants died becuase of nutrient deficiency/or low light for the plants requiring a higher wattage?...
Hope this helps.

I like the sound of java fern rather than moss, so will try that thanks.

I have gravel thats only about 2cm deep - I'm sure it was deeper when I first put it in but the fish push it about, so I have deep patches and shallow patches. I have no nutrient rich substrate and haven't used any fertiliser stuff in the past. Just bought some fertiliser drops though yesterday - it says add 20 drops a week. Maybe I should get some root tabs. Just have an ordinary light and no CO2.

Its not suprising they dies really :)
