I have recently aquired a 30l BiOrb and the lighting it comes with is 1WPG, i would like to make it a planted tank and only house shrimp (maybe a few endlers), the question is can i put in a plant substrate/ fertilizer to make plants grow better or not? Also, can i replace the current gravel substrate with a proper gravel substrate, it would then look better i think. This is because the ceramic media it comes with isn't very good to grow plants in.

Thanks
Will

You can on both of the options however it'll be damn near impossible to change the filter as everything will move into the gap it leaves when you pull it out. You could put the plants in pots underneath the crappy lava rock?

biOrbs are hard, i have a 30l just like you and you cant plant as the media is the gravel provided. unless you are not going to have many fish (you said shrimp) put a little bit of media around the filter and use a gravel than provides plant food (eco compleat is good) and you could plant it. it will be quite alot of work but when its done it will look nice.

good luck with it, shang hi :good:

luke, just because you don't like the biOrb don't tell him to sell it. and on ebay you will get nothing compaired to what u payed, its worth giving planting it a good go before giving up.
grrr luke
