I have had Lilaeopsis in my tank for a month or so now and while it is starting to spread nicely it looks awful because of all the algae surrounding it. I was warned about this by zig and I was going to persist with it but the algae is impossible to remove and I want a carpetting plant thatwill look nicer than what it does now.

I am after a low growing carpetting plant.....maybe I will give glosso a try.....I had it before in a sand substrate so the growth wasn't fantastic. If I can find some of that I will use that.

Any other ideas?

hiya mate, yep i agree with the glosso option. bearing in mind you have now changed your substrate and added laterite the glosso should carpet much more readily than last time. have you still got 3.2WPG with that 10,000K tube? reason being Lilaeopsis is a slow growing plant with that much light on it especially at 10,000K algae will grow much more readily than the Lilaeopis. Glosso however in theory should take off rapidly both with the wattage and the strength of the light.

if i were you i'd give it another try.

Hi AP

Must be something in the air, we all seem to be growing glosso ATM, just make sure the algae isnt bga that you are seeing, keep the nitrate levels around 15ppm and you should be ok.

I would also try glosso, its growing fine for me, although i would think it may be a bit high maintainence long term, once it gets established it grows quickly.

yeah everyones bored of riccia now, ha ha. glosso seems to be the current fad...

you may be interested to hear i'm about to do an experiment on my 40G. the tubes are a little old so i'm gonna swop out a 6000K jbl for a 10,000K arcadia marine white (sitting in the cupboard brand new). obviously this isn't the recommended K rating (for anyone else reading this) but you never know. it's the 2nd tube back of the 4 so will sit directly above the new glosso and riccia. hopefully now with EI going strong the plants will be able to use the stronger light. if not i'm about to seriously mess up my tank....

RICCIA!!

That's what I have to do this weekend!

I did have a rock with Riccia on it, but the hairnet was rubbish shedding the Riccia all over the tank, I checked it last night and it's gone crazy. Must buy some hairnets on the way home tonight...
