im new to planted tanks, ive never set one up before.

i have a 126L (27.5G) tank with various plants. some of the tall plants (that have got spiral bits) have got hair algae on the tips and some of the tips are dying. is this becasue of my lighting? (two bulbs, one aqua glo, one sun glo) or is it because of something else? i have a nutrafin CO2 kit but havent set it up yet becasue the tank has only been set up for like a week. could it be the PH is too high for them? i have a plant that looks like someone drew on the leaves with a pink felt tip pen and the leaves are starting to curl and look a bit withery. i dont know the name of the plant but maybe it needs a different PH?

any suggestions?

I've had the same on my planted tank same size as yours. To begin with some of the tips were going brown so i cut them out and all is well since! Have a bit of brown sluge on the leves sometimes but that comes off with a wipe when i do my water change. I would think the brown ends would have somthing to do with the lighting differance in the LFS to your own.

PS watch out for the snails

snails! i know! i have a 13G that is INFESTED! so infested all the fish died even though we tried every trick to get rid of them.

i took the plants out of the pots and that foamy stuff and planted them in my tank after washing all the dirt off them. i have sand substate and laterite so hopefully they will flourish eventually.

ive just set up my nutrafin CO2 kit, but its not doing anything at the moment ???? is it meant to start to work straight away?

im putting 3 of my cherry barbs in there to cycle it properly. :)
