I'm sure this forum gets ten topics like this daily.

Anyway, I'm setting up a tank for various invertebrates, and was wondering what simple plants would be good in my simple set-up.

The tank is a 29g. My substrate is going to be a layer of laterite with black sand over it. The lighting will be two fluorescent lights (24 watts each). I'm keeping plants under one of these tubes in my current set-up, so I'm pretty sure it will be enough. No CO2.

The planned scape is going to be one side planted, and one side open with twigs and rock rubble strewn around to promote algae growth on them for the inverts. Basically the plants will be high in the one corner, and get lower until there are no more.

I like the slow-growing plants and mosses, as they're really easy to take care of.

The planned stock are as follows:
Colony of Cherry shrimp
Colony of Tiger Shrimp
Colony of MTS
~5 Amano Shrimp
1 Apple snail

I'm aware that I'll need to feed everything. Hopefully I won't need to clean the tank much with all of them though!

PS: Do ramshorn snails eat plants? I like the look of them, and may add them.

shrimps absolutely love mosses of all kinds, you could try things like java moss, christmas moss, flame moss, weeping moss, fissidens sp. and monoselium tenerum and riccia.

Agree about the mosses, they provide great cover and a large surface area for the baby shrimp to feed on. Any plants you want really but mosses and shrimp go together like fish and water. Some shrimp keepers say that slow growing plants are best as they dont compete so much with the micro food thats grows in the tank.

What are some slow-growing plants with leaves? I love moss but I think it would get a bit boring if that's all that there is.

good plants to go with mosses would be anubias and java ferns, particularly anubias nana var petite and narrow leaf/needle leaf java fern.

How would I make a moss wall?

Attach moss to a mesh using cotton thread, then just prop this up at the back and let it grow. Hair grass makes a great environment for shrimp, as it collects detritus. Would add a bit of a different texture too
