I've just set up my new tank as a low tech planted. The stats are 24l x 18h x 12w (20USG), 1.5wpg, fluval 3+ filtration (with mature media from another tank), Eco-complete substrate, no CO2.

Could you give me a few suggestions as to species that would do well in this setup?

Thanks

Ian

hi you could try java moss its not to fussy on requirements and grows well without co2, try this website for more info www.aquamoss.net. regards john :)

Depends what sort of plants you want. Java Ferns are great low maintenace plants that live happily in lower lighting. They attach to wood and stone (tie them on with thread, they attach after a few weeks).

Some other low light plants which I will be experimenting with soon in my new tank are:

Juncus repens - Haven't yet got one but looks interesting

Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae - (might need to consider root tabs for this)

Eleocharis ''parvula'' - Nice grassy plant. Got some of this the other day and looks good so far.

Marsilea hirsuta - Nice looking plant. Haven't planted it yet but I like it so far!

Then you've got various mosses - Java moss, Taiwan moss, Christmas moss etc. Can get some good effects with this :)

Not too far off my lighting ...

And i grow ...

Hygrophila Polysperma, Difformis, and Corymbosa "Siamensis"

Riccia(NICEST PLANT IN MY TANK) and just added some Ludwigia Arcuata

Also Java Moss and Java Fern Windelov as John has mentioned!

You can grow alot more than you think you could

I Do add c02 but just DIY and i dose when i remember to with Hagen Plant grow !

Good Luck

Richie

Thanks for the tips :good:

I always thought riccia needed co2, I think I might give it a go now.

Well....

I dont know if it does really lol...

But im my tank there is hardly any c02 if any!

I always forget to change mix etc etc !

and Riccia is still the nicest in my tank !

I think aslong as you keep it directly right under light (nothing obstructing the light to the riccia)

Then it should grow nicely!

Maybe think of getting a liquid fertiliser ie flourish excel ive seen ppl use it instead of co2

Good Luck
