Hello again :p, my tank is cycling it has nierly 0 ammonia but nitrites are high about 5ppm i was just wondering could i add some plants or would nitrites effect them?

plants don't really use nitrites and you'd have to have more equipment (good lighting, co2, plant substrate, fertilizers) to support the plants. have you tried doing about a 50% water change?

dont the nitrites need to go down to 0ppm by themselves first?

If you ahve fish in the tank do a 40% water change. If you are doing fishless cycle leave it for 5 days and check again. If still tehre do water change.

No problem with adding the plants. The nitrites wont affect them.

If anything they could help a bit, 'cos you can use plants to help seed a new filter set-up when you do a fishless cycle. Nitryfying bacteria can live in the root systems, but when using them for this purpose its recommended that you leave them in the rookwool.
