my tank is a 55 gallon recently cloned, all the plants and half the gravel are from my 20 gallon tank, the problem is my tank only has 30 watts of light (two 15 watt dayglow floresent tubes) there are about 10 plants all
are big and bushy, they didnt grow fast but they had big roots when i removed them from my 20 gallon wich only had 1 15 watt fluresent bulb, thats all great and dandy expt my elepant nose who ive just managed to switch to day shift in my tank hates bright light and the light in my tank is already realy bright probably to bright for a full grown elephant nose as there eyes are very sensitive to light, so i was wondering if there was any way to improve light qaulity in my tank without makeing it brighter in there than it already is.

In a word - No. As far as is know, which ever way you look at it, to get more light means increasing brightness.

yep exactly why i'm screwd that way, either my favorit fish or a lush tank... although so far so good.

Nice fish thou, keep seeing them in LFS and thinking they are an unusual but interesting looking fish. Are they all sensitive to light?

Thinking on my feet here a bit, if you planted the tank really heavily, would that not created shaded areas where the elephant nose could go hide and get out of the light? Seems like increasing the light (and consequently incresing the plant growth) might be a way of actually reducing the light intensity the fish has to cope with? Especially if you has lots of bushy stem plants?

thats a realy realy good idea, expt with one problem, first of all money it would be realy expencive to buy enough plants to create a canopy for the botom layer of my tank, and secod of all this is a realy big fish and he needs lots of space to swim around the plants i have now seem to bug him so he spends alot of time swiming in free water because of this, i have many plants that i bought large and have bearly grown but stayed alive including 5 bushy amazon sword plants a weird red seaweed like plant a plant that grows on the drift wood, a brazilian sword plant and many more, probably about 15 large plants all about 3 inches apart. (i bought them as asorted large plants so i realy dont know what they are.)
