Hi Ive orderd a plant selection from Greenline aquatics and wondered what i can do to prepair the tank for there arrival, I have just 1inc sand as a substrate more in places as the CAE and loaches move it about in heaps lol Im wondering about this florish stuff or something similar, do plants actualy need a soil type substrate and do you cover that with the sand? should i start adding some plant food to the water and start up the c02 system again befor they arrive?
the last lot of plants i got where ruined by bba and the bloody Gourami i found new homes for the gourami but im worried about the return of the dreaded bba any way of stopping that befor it starts?
incidently it may not mean anything but i add eseybalance to the water weekly 30ml to a 240ltr tank as thats what i was told to do, do 20ltr water changes fortnightly ( cant lift the buckets du to athritis)

Athritis is nothing to be embarrased about mate. :good: However, if you were to puny to lift them, then that would be a different story!

Just turn on your Co2 and use your ferts when you have the plants, just make sure your CAE doesn't uproot your plants. I see George is reading this, so i'll leave him to post a much better reply than mine.

1 inch of substrate isn't really enough for most plants with roots. Aim for 2" minimum. You can grow plants in plain sand but a substrate additive will help i.e. root tabs.

Setting up the CO2 before planting is a good idea.

Greenline selections are ok, although you are bound to get a few species that won't do too well.

What lighting do you have?

I keep on meaning to add moresand but have been wondering about this florish stuff as that would add the extra inch ? but if i dont need it then i wont use it. Root tabs hmmm never used them befor do you put them in under the root od=f the plant befor you plant it? My lighting is arcadia troplical plant growth and tropical freshwater i cant recall any other data on the kelvin killajules or what ever scientific bumf they are but they are 48" long  i belive the lighting is 1 wpg i think Themulous worked it out for me yonks back i think thats what he worked it out to be
I hope i dont get too many that wont do well i didnt get the selection that was for my tank size.

I think you mean Seachem Flourite substrate, not Flourish - that's a liquid fert.

Mixing some Flourite with your sand would be ok.

Your lighting will be ok for easier plants. Fit reflectors if you haven't already for best results.
