do you know the pots you get with live plants? if you know what im on about, would you rather keep the plant in them? or take the plant out and burry the plant in the substrate?
this topic all started at my LFS, the shop assistant thinks the tank and plant look better with the pots on the plant. because i just bought my plants on the week end they are still in thier pots. so whats your oppinion on pots?

Personally, I take them out. I take any cotton wool/sponge etc that the stems/root are in off completely and then plant them into the substrate. This way hopefully your plant will root itself and be able to pull nutrients (ie, fish waste) out of the gravel.

Also, depending on the pot, and depending on your fish, from past experience small fish can get stuck in pots  I had a danio that decided it wanted to swim through the lattice hole in a pot and got stuck :( He's fine now though :)

I take the pots off too for the same reason as Dev. I should imagine keeping them in the pot may restrict the growth of the plant.

I think it depends how well the plant is started with its roots. If the plant has great rootage started I would take it out of the pot. If the plant has little rootage started I would leave it in the pot as it would be more protected so as the fish could not get to some of the roots, possibly.
Also sometimes plants left in the pot look neat to. It all depends what type of look i'm going for in the tank sometimes. :)

I remove them too; let the roots grow naturally. It'd stop fish getting caught in them too; as Dev found out, if a fish can get stuck somewhere, it will eventually.
