I'm just starting to use Tropica plant nutrition + and I've got a dosing question. My tank is 240L and running about 1.1wpg with pressurised CO2. Now I've heard that too much plant nutrition plus can cause excess algae so I'm keen not to overdose and it says adjust dosage to plant uptake. However I'm essentially lazy and was wondering if I overdose (slightly) and do large % water changes weekly would that not reduce excess as you would with a large EI style water change? Does that make sense?

FYI It says on the carton 5ml per 50l so 25ml a week in my case. Better in one dose or spread out?

Cheers

Probably best to spread it out over the week, ie Monday, Wednesday, Friday (water change on Sunday). Obviously you don't want to dose the day before you do a water change so organise it around that :)

Wow with 1.1WPG

Pressurized Co2 will hardly make a differences in plant growth..
I say, you need more lights

I'd disagree with that statement. You can use CO2 to great effect on a "low light" tank. Ask Mr Farmer :)

Also, 1.1wpg on a tank of this size is actually not the low. The WPG rule has a lot of drawbacks to it.

Nobody 'needs' more lights 1.1WPG is more thana lot of tank's stock lighting.

TPN+ shouldn't give you algae probs and CO2 is beneficial no matter what the light. Just the uptake is lower.

Take a look at this thread from George Farmer.
(I suggest the poster who said you need more lights and CO2 is pointless with 1.1WPG should take a look too:)

Hi mate,

Dose 10ml every other day. 1/3 water per week.

Hope all is well at your end. Give me a buzz sometime soon.

PS when you run out of TPN+ let me know... ;)

You need a fair amount of light to grow good algae also:0
Adding NH4 will not cause many algae blooms at 1 to 1.5w/gal.

At least not for a week or so.......
I had trouble.
At 2-5 w/gal, not that hard.
