hey folks, just a quick question.
We have a cycled 20L tank.
Rather than keeping any fish in them, we were going to use it for growing and storing plants.
Do they need any heat source?
Its currently unheated, and sitting around 20C, will this be okay??
The idea was to buy some plants with the potential of flourishing long flowing leaves, is this a good idea, or should we just buy them from a shop and plant them straight away?
Even so, i think it will be nice to have an aqua garden as a separate entity to enjoy.
Comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
joe

Photosynthesis will occur much slower, if it occurs too slow then it will not be able to support as many cells so it would just go into a dormancy phase, but they will survive.
If you want them too flower you are better off growing them emmersed, as the extra CO2, unlimited light (and room temperature) are much better conditions.

Thanks, Aaron

haha

im thinking the OP wants to have them emmersed, and his question is, does he need to have a heater in the tank, so that again leads me to think hes growing them emmersed.

im thinking about having a tank like this as well, ive read some plants do thrive more in specific water temps, but im no expert.

Why not have a look on tropica.com to see what plants you want and whether they're suited to certains temps.

I don't really understand why you'd want to grow and store plants? If you want them for your main tank, just put them in your main tank. You're better off either growing plants to sell and support any of your needs or just doing another tank. Or you could even do wabi kusa like this:

his question is, does he need to have a heater in the tank

And I answered that... he never mentioned anything about emmersed growing, I brought that up
I said if you keep them unheated they will survive, but wont grow:

However if you did mean emmersed growing, then yes you still need a heater.

I did misread this question however, I thought it said 'flowering', not flowing

What else do you want to know?
