Hi there,

I have recently bought plants for my aquarium and would like to know what kind of fertilizers are safe to use. If anyone in the uk could give me names of fertilizers and places that stock I would be grateful

Thanks,

Alaine

i use leaf zone,

maybe if you posted in the planted section you would get better results.

I don't use any fertilizer and my plants are in great shape I have had them for over 6 months. To be honest I never knew about fertilizer. I suppose it would be a matter of a persons tank , degree , type of fish and type of plants .

Slow release substrate additives are the way to go 'imo'... I use Laterite granules mixed with an inch of 2-3mm natural gravel... with an inch of the same gravel over the top... and then an inch of sand over that... providing a deep enough substrate for real plants to 'root down' into... and minimises Laterite 'leakage'...

My substrate is sand, but I use Seachem Fertiliser tablets at the roots and also leafzone as I believe vallis likes to take it's nutrients from the water. I think using a combination works better to ensure all your plants get the best.

Perhaps you should ask in planted tanks what fertilizers those guys use and whats best for your own plants? There's a few people in their with amazing tanks and they love to speed people on the way to their own planted addictions!
