The new tank is up and running but i need some plants...!

Im wanting something which will cover the tank quickly (i want one half planted..) and not to expensive as this is the budget tank of the year

(so far tank/hood/sand/bogwood and plants is at £8.50 :good: ) :)

Any name suggestions for plants? Will post a wanted add up when i know what im looking for and how much ££ i would be paying :)

Thanks :)

Generally in LFS they have some cheap plants, in mine there is Cabomba and Vallis at £2 per bunch

i went in this morning - was rubbish!...

My other local one has the choice of 1 plant... :(

I did buy 2 (£6!!!) and they tried to flog me some on bog wood for £9 but i already have a huge chunk of bog wood :)

All plants will take a while to establish and grow. Choose dark leaved plants as these need less light to grow. You will also need to feed them liquid ferts and have your lights on for 6+ hours a day for them to grow well.

Thanks

The tank dosent currently have any lights (im looking into it)!

But im not sure if to get any LED lights rather than "proper" lights as the tank lid is a bit hit and miss...........

You have to get certain LEDs notjust the strips

Thanks :)

Any tips on lights??? need some as it looks horribly dull but the lid i have i do not trust so will need something in the tank....

Any suggestions?

thanks :)

Not sure about lights but if you want something that will grow quickly and fill up your tank, have a look at Hornwort. It grows so quickly in my tank, it is becomming a bit of a nuisance.

Can't give advice on plants because you haven't mentioned your tank size or lighting.

You can buy many plants very cheaply on ebay! What I do is google aquarium plants and find out the easy ones to grow then put them in an ebay search! Check out the sellers feedback to make sure they are selling good quality plants. :good:

+1 Vallis is the guppy of the plant world.

Really? Fabulous! I'm pretty rubbish with live plants but I've managed to get some new shoots on my amazon swords using sand substrate and making sure to have the light on for a good few hours every day. I just added some java fern and loads of corkscrew vallis so that sounds like a good omen to me :D

With my first tank, I bought 4 plants, in my naivety, from my LFS. They didn't even have labels, and looking back, the assistant didn't have the faintest idea what they would do. I eventually figured out from Google and my aquarium book that I had a vallis, a cabomba, an elogera and a crypto. I now have just vallis, it has taken over, and my danios love racing in and out of it. It needs a regular "haircut", when it starts to impeded the fish getting at their food, but it will just grow and grow and grow so easily.

I was the same! Mine kept dying, turns out mostly because they were non=aquatic plants

I still don't know much and most of my local shops only have the absolute basics, but now my java ferns are actually attached to wood and my vallis unpotted and separated (took me a while to figure that out!) I shall wait and see if my luck has improved :D
