hi all,

im getting a 4ft tank fairly soon and i wanted to stock it with larger fish. I definately want one of those blue crayfish. if possible 2. they will be the bottom feeders and probably the focal point lol.
i've read that crays can live in coldwater (room temperature) but they can also live in tropical? I may be more inclined to go for a coldwater community, i don't know yet.

anyhoo, crayfish don't go very well with small fish, but are fine with larger ones i've heard. The setup will be mainly rocks and caves for teh cray, so im going to need fish that will be happy with this kind of setup. maybe some oddballs? They need to be top dwellers and fairly quick obviously.

im all ears to any advice, im quite familiar with the requirements of the cray.

thanks

I wouldn't recommend blue crayfish with any fish.

I don't know if 2 would kill each other or not.

You're better off getting a mini crayfish tank for just that in it.

I would reccomend crays with fish. If you plan wisely, it can easily be done.

I wouldnt go below 50gal for two crays. You could have a couple of african butterfly fish in there, the cray wouldnt pose any threat to them.

well i collected the tank and heres what i got with it. 2 shubunkins and 3 other goldfish, and 1 weather loach. im planning to keep these and maybe add a few more fish later. ive always fancied a coldwater community

thanks for the input, if i were to go with a coldwater, would some medium size koi work well?

cheers

Koi grow up to 3-4ft long, so they wouldn't be happy in a 4ft long tank.

What is the exact length, width and height of the tank? Shubunkins are a colour/pattern variety found in goldfish rather than an actual breed of goldfish, some varieties of goldfish can grow very large as well. Its important to find out the exact measurements of the tank and what exact varieties of goldfish you have before you start changing the stocking around, because there are some varieties of goldfish which can easily outgrow a 4ft long tank etc.

 .

it seems i have just 3 normal and 2 shubunkins, i may not keep these. im sill trying to decide if i should go with a tropical. if i would, it would need to have oddballs as ive always fasncied a go at these.

measurements are 48"Lx12"Wx18"T
