Planning My First Real Planted Tank

gonna order one of these next week, i would like to do an iwagumi style tank as the ones ive seen look amazing. plants i want to use are dwarf hairgrass (planted around a piece of slate or other rock) and Hemianthus callitrichoides Cuba as my carpet plant. Is this an ok idea for a plant noob and will it work in this tank. (easier alternative ideas welcome)

should i buy some flourish excel and plant ferts too?
