Right I would like to be quite heavy planted. But avoid co2 if I can. Also Can I mix the flora base substrate with sand?

Plants am thinking of
Cryptocoryne undulata "broadleafs"

this is where I get stuck :D Need some help with plant recommendations

I would like a carpet effect in front of the wood slowly fading off so there just some sand or if i can't mix subs just the flora based substrate at the other end of the tank

Any help would be appreciated

What instantly comes to mind is Java fern and Java moss. You could tie down some Java moss onto a rock like I did and it will grow like a carpet if you trim it. You could attach some java moss to your wood too, make it grow from the top all the way down. Anubias nana would do good in your tank as well.

In my low light nano, I have java fern, anubias barteri v. nana, ambulia, cryptocoryne undulata, hygrophilia corymbosa, christmas moss and flame moss. All grow fine, although the hygro grows extremely slow! I previously had sagittaria subulata in there too and it grew fine, but I took it out.

I could very easily put a new light in the tank would it be needed? Don't want to put much light then need co2.

heading to lfs well 19 mles away to get some plants tommow. Not sure what type of stock theyhave in atm.
