I have a 50 gal. tank with just a pirranha and placoptimus. They don't bother each other, but the placopitmus is hungry! Yes, hungry. He's cleaned that tank up and there is no alegy. I've noticed that he's started to lose weight, so I got him some alegy tablets and the pirranha eats them. I've tried lettuce to no avail. What can I feed him that the pirranha won't eat!

Also, have noticed that some disease has infested tank. Am treating for ick. Placoptimus is turning white and spots on pirranha.

Sorry to put so much in one post, but it's on my mind. I was reading thru the forum and didn't really find an answer to my question. What do most people feed their pirranha's? I was feeding mine goldfish, but after this last batch, this disease, don't want to get anymore goldfish for awhile.

Thanks for your help!

Go to the right part of the forum and ask about the fish diet needs.
Garlic good in food for appetite.

If you mean Pleco then you could try a raw carrot, i know nothing about pirahna but most fish struggle to eat carrot, plecos don't, although it may take him/her some time to come round to the idea.
Not sure what you mean by the Pleco turning white, can you elaborate?

first off you have to realize that plecos can NOT survive on just algae.
what type of pleco is it?

most plecos love zucchini and cucumber. in the uk zucchini is called courgette

Ok, firstly most ick treatments are toxic to Pirranhas which can be fatal, check if the treatment contains malachite and if so i would stop using it ASAP, if the fish do have ick simply increase the temp to about 28C (82F) and add the required dosage of aquarium salts

As for feeding, with the pirranha i wouldn't feed live fish, i would feed him on beef heart, frozen prawns, lance fish, and small amounts of fresh chicken.

and for the pleco, you can try algae wafers, pleco tablets, catfish pellets, also I feel you should try weighing down some cucumber and leaving it in the tank overnight, it is also an idea to have some nice smooth pieces of bankwood in the tank for the pleco to get extra nutrients from.
