Hi. I was just wondering where you suggest an aquarium heater is placed?

Currently, mine is diagonally centred at the back of the tank, however, I have read that it is good to have it near the filter inlet / outlet as it heats the moving water more efficiently.

What are your views on this? I'd rather it was there to be honest, it's hideous in the middle of the tank!!

Ignore this, I've found the answer elsewhere on the forum. :good:

Yeah, I have mine placed on either end of the tank, one by the water intake and the other by the output. Since you only have one heater, I would put it by the the output. I'm annoyed that I had to replace my Marineland heaters(due to the recall) because they were black and blended in to my back round. I bought a nice expensive Eheim and it sticks out like a sore thumb :grr:

Ah thanks, excellent. This is leading onto another question now. hehe.

Having bought a second hand tank, and second hand filter and having had the filter hoses already cut for me, both inlet and outlet are at one end of the tank. Should this ideally be opposite ends?

Thanks

They should be at opposite ends of the tank yes. However, if you can't achieve this you should always change the height of them. For example put the intake value towards the bottom of the tank and then put the output value at the top of the tank. That might help solve the problem if you can't move them to the opposite end of the tank (thats what they do in Fluval Croner tanks).

They should always be away from each other, otherwise you will end up just pushing the same bit of water through your filter. Hope that helps.

They are at different heights, however, it won't be a problem to purchase some more hose.

Thanks :good:

Well, with some canister filters (aqua clear for example), the output and input are side by side and they work just fine. Ideally though, you get a better flow with filters that allow you to place them at opposite ends. Have you checked into getting a replacement hose? It shouldn't cost too much and you would probably be happier with the end result.
