So i had two pairs of discus lost a female from one pair and a male to the other. (not sure what they died off) i was working away at the time.

So i have taken the remaining female a good 7-8" red turq and the younger 5-6" cobalt blue male and poped them in a tank together, i expected alot of fighting and bullying to happen but upto now they are just having a few friendly chases with the occassional nudges here and their with no damage to either fish.

So who thinks they may become a pair they seem to float side by side alot and have taken well to each other.

They might, are you still loosing Discus? I think you need to get that sorted out before you worry about breeding Discus, not only that, a red turq and cobalt blue aren't compatible.

Im home now so i have the issues of loosing them in hand im also now using a mixture of water, half tap and half ro, as according to my lfs he said a few people have complained about loosing fish in the local area without any diagsnoses of whats actually happened to them, i also lost two fish in different house's just died over night again no signs of illness just went downhill really quick and the next day dead.

Withregards to compatibility can you elaborate a little, do you mean they are not compatible because of colourations or will their different breeds reject each other in some manner.

thanks.

They are different strains (colors) so the fry will be oddly colored, not a favorable color anyways.

Mixing tap and R/O won't do much if you ask me. If it is a contaminant in your tap your still putting that tap water in. Sounds like the LFS just wanted to sell you an R/O unit...

All the fish are doing really well, it's now been a couple of weeks with no issues, and the two above have become a pair they now spend most of their time shimmering to each other and swimming around together with lots of displays just waiting on the eggs now. (however not proven yet)

I personally think they may make a interesting colour combination as the female has some blue in colouration, i think it would be nice to see if that blue is brought out a bit more by mixing her with the cobalt blue.

Ill keep you posted on the progress of them, and fingers crossed my problems with them getting sick will keep at bay!

Good luck. I guess you can try breeding them if they do lay eggs, but chances are the fry may look a but ugly :/

Good luck with them though hopefully they will survive.
