thats why you should NEVER release fish into your water body, even if they naturally originate from there.

My dad used to keep a pirhana a few years ago. He lives in Monaca, Pennsylvania. I think he got it at some family owned pet shop a few hours away, but they sell stuff that they shouldn't be selling at that place... o_O

they are illegal i think everywhere in the us because they are predators that many people used to buy and get rid of and guess where they hrew them too the lakes and rivers and they atrted to kill off and starve many species of fish same for snakeheads which i love
Thats incorrect, it depends on the state. I live in Missouri and the Red-Bellied Pirhanas are legal and found att almost any lfs. I too wish I could own a snakehead but I believe you are correct with them in that they are not legal in the U.S. at all without a permit.

Piranhas are illegal in NY, Legal in PA...it is a large fine, i strongly believe that a large chain like petsmart was not selling piranhas....I would be willing to bet anymoney it was Pacu

Obviously not everywhere, I see redbellies at my local Petsmart.
Make the effort to walk up and read the tag before accusing a company of doing something illegal. Those are red-bellied PACU! Not illegal but I think it's unethical considering they outgrow pretty much all but custom or very large tanks extremely quickly.
