i wanna put a couple of lengths of pipe inside a slate rockery im building in the cornor of my 100g tank.will it be ok to use the grey plastic kind that are used for houses?im sure ive seen this in other peoples tanks

Like plastic drainage pipes you mean? So long as the're new and clean (no nasties having leached their way into them over time) I'd say so - plastic is pretty inert so shouldn't change the water.

PVC piping works well and it is pretty cheap.

that's what i use and the fish love them!

I used PVC pipes in my apisto tanks, created multi story flats for them, I bought the pipes from my local hardware shop or you could go to a B&Q, then I bought some aquarium sealant, washed all the pipes real well and then cut them to the depth I wanted and glued sections at a time together. Left it for a couple of days for the sealant to go off, to keep the pipes from floating I glued them to a piece of slate that I had bought at my local lfs (after I washed it and made sure that there was no dirt or lose bits still on it).

There you have it a pipe flatlet for all the apisto's to rest sleep and play in.

oops i didnt even think about them floating :/ i was gonna bury several pipes under the slate so you cant see the pipe at all just the caves entrances.i may have to glue them on first too.what glue did you use?
