I have found lights, but they never come with the right bulb for what I need.
I am getting compact fluorescents. They have the ones that are half white and half pink... Are these any good?
Do I need to get the solid white ones?
They said the white is sunshine and the pink is for plants.

I need to know if they are really good for plants and what will the pink color do to the look of the plants/tank? Would it make it look good or bad? will it really make the plants grow better?

The fixture comes with 12,000k bulbs. I read on here that that is too high... so I am going to order the bulbs when I order the fixtures.

Should I get... white== 6700k
or
white=6400k/pink (50/50)

What would work better for the plants (and look good)

Thanks for helping! :friends:

these are just 50/50 bulbs, should be ok i guess...... Many people use 10,000k and actinics in saltwater with good results, dont see why it wont work in freshwater.

I buy my CFs all be it in UK at virtually the same price as the T8 lights.

Pink and white should be OK. Will be similar to using one daylight and one Pink hue T8.

I tend to veer away from the pinkish hue lights because although they do bring out the colour of the fish they tend to make my sand look pinkish so I use 2 daylight bulbs.

Do the pink lights really make the plants grow better?
Does it make any difference with the plants at all? Are they both the same (neither better than the other) as far as how it benefits the plants.

Thanks! :friends:

I am just afraid that it may cause algae that I would then be forced to battle. That is my biggest fear right now. I am already growing things that I have no idea what they are, and they aren't pretty! :blush: I have tons of assorted brown stuff growing very well. It apparently loves my tanks. I just don't love them. I have to find out what they are and how to stop them. :good:
