So, I went to my dads house (on the lake) and saw they had let alot of water out, and the water line was ~10ft down. So I decide to go looking for some nice drift wood in his cove, well I found some. But it's pine, and I hear pine isn't a good choice for aquariums..but didn't really get any reasons as to why.

The wood itself appears really old/weathered, I cut it off a drown tree that had been there for years. It's rock hard aside from whats left of the bark.

However, it still had a very faint "piny" smell in the middle where I cut. Is it possible to use this in my tank SAFELY? I have 2 small common plecs. It's some very attractive wood, and I would hate to lose it...but I don't want to risk my fish...

Thanks,

-Logan.

I have also heard that evergreen trees are not a good choice for aquariums. Check this thread, posts 8 and 10. Also, any wood that you get from the outside will need to be boiled before you put them in your tank to remove any parasites and orgamisms that may be present.
