for weeks I'ved seen this pike in with sevrums and festivums at Seapets and has been bugging me what it is as he's a beut!

I think it may be Crenicichla Lepitoda, I'm considering him for my big tank with rays, sevrums, oscar, bchirs, eels and a BGK. He doesn't seem to bother the other fish at all in the display tank although It's probable a bit cramped for him, he's about 4-5"

Female C.saxatilis. Should be ok with your larger fish (i have one in with mine) but they are prone to bouts of extreem aggression from time to time. It should grow to around 10 inches.

I feel guilty for spoiling a perfectly sensible post.... :*)

I'll edit later
(it might get a laugh - and today people need it)

if you think thats a pike thats nothing to the 27 lb one i caught LOL

damn i cant post a pic of it

think i'll have to go up there and get it, tis a beut!, it's survived in there tanks for a while now so must be a tough ol cookie!

couple key things that will help ya understand how I came up with this ID blurry pic but as best I can guess paul your first guess of lepitoda was a pretty good one. the humeral blotch is a good key as to it being a saxitillis group pike, as does the gold spangling. the round belly though not pink as they often are in breeding females, is indicitive of a female. I agree that it is a lepitoda as the female Cr. Saxitillis while it looks very simmilar often their humeral blotch is often connected to a stripe that starts at the back of the eye and the whole of it is outlined in white.

right well I have her now but she's resting in 1 of those awkward places you can't get a descent shot because of lighting and reflections!

Those pictures were only taken on my phone.....was a snap at £4-40...nice festivum!!

I'ved put her in quarantine for the moment and probable a grow out tank after that as I don't think she's quite ready for the big tank, possible being bichir food.

oh and if it is the Cr. Lepitoda is it's behaviour similiar/same to the Cr. Saxitillis?

sorry for the late reply I had to go for my monthly drill but most saxitillis group pikes share the same behavior, wicked mean to all similar shaped fish picking until death. espically once a pair bond is formed. mean to all other fish but wouldn't hurt each other.

I have a pike cichlid too, they're pretty cool, very good at caughting live food. Likes to stay in a cave at times.
