I am sure we've all lost fish before but every now and again losing one makes you feel that little bit extra sad. Now I'm not really a softy but the death of our male plakat betta did make me feel a tad tearful. It was only then that we worked out how long he'd been around and how much he'd been through. He's some of his adventures:

Was almost the first fish in a newish tank brought by me for my girlfriend for christmas.

We washed the filter out under the tap killing a fair few of the fish in our tank. Pig got sick but recovered!

various new fish keepers errors including over feeding and not gravel cleaning.

8 months living with another long finned male and female in the same community tank. Never once was there a fight and never any trouble! He was sold to us as a female and at the time we were told two females and one male would be fine.

When moving the tank from London to Bristol the tank bottom split with the fish in the bottom killing yet more fish. Pig survived even in new water in a very small tank.

(introduced to Fish Forums just before this trip but never thought to ask the best way of moving the fish! Silly us)

Pig lived either in breeding tank within a main tank before moving into his own vase type tank. After a few months a space became available in our massive rio 240 tank. We decided to pop him in there to see how he got on. He loved it and always swam up to us (something he'd never done before).

Now pig had been abit of a pain as he was alittle rowdy with some of the other fish when we had put him in various setups. That was until we realised he was a male!

He was called pig as he was, well ugly............

After a few weeks loving his new tank and tank friends he started to slow up until saturday when he got sick. He died through the night in the hospital tank we had set up for him.

We worked out we have had him for almost two years. So not bad for a guy who'd been through what we had put him through.

RIP little fella

Sounds like little piggy has a wonderful life and was a tough little bugger.
Sometimes they just decide when it's time for them to take the high road and go on.
It never gets any easier, either.

Sorry for your loss. He's in a very good place now.
