Pictus Cats

hello

what fish would go with pimelodus pictus, but before i even think about getting pictus cats would they fit in a 45gal tank if anybody knows about pictus cats please answer me because i think they look awesome

i have 4 in my 79g. since they have been in 2 of my celebe rainbows have gone missing and they are about 6cm in size, i would say they are only good with larger fish. what fish are ou thiking?

i would put 3 in there but it depends what else you want in there

Pictus get quite big - 20cm + depending on species. And they can be very active so they need plenty swimming space.

As for tank mates. They can be predatory, so anything that won't fit into their mouth. Neons etc might get eaten.

I have one and they're only really active at night time, they fly around the tank and to any low lying fish they can do damage with the speed they travel.
I wouldn't keep them with anything small, I believe it was my pictus that killed off two kribs.

well i have them with whats in my signature so you may get some ideas from there

My 5-6 inch pictus ate two of my platies which were about 1-2 inch big.

Pictus cats are awesome fish! I definately recommend but please don't catch them with your regular fish nets as they have spines on their fins and will get caught. When I last had to fish mine out I put a plastic bag inside a net and it worked well but the weight of the water stretched the net (it was a $2 net). They also make little 'chirping' noises when they feel threatened. It sounds like a phone vibrating on a table Scared me the first time I heard it. Apparently when they are in groups you can hear them through the glass but I've never witnessed that.

As for tank mates, I'm suspicious that my pictus is responsible for the missing neon tetra saga although I don't know for sure. It's not recommended you keep them with small fish though as they are predatory.

People on the forum also recommend you keep them in groups.

I was just wondering what should i feed the pictus cats (pimelodus pictus)

Mine used to eat the Tetra Prima and flake that found its way to the bottom.
I also used to drop catfish pellets in at night.

They would prob also enjoy some live/frozen food (bloodworms etc) from time to time.

Could these be kept with Cory's? Or would they be too small? I like the look of them and would mind some in my tank.

Also have a RTS and Raphael cat, would they go with these too?

you would be risking the corys, i for one would not put them together. the raphael cat and RTS would be fine though

1x red oscar (small)
1x green severum (small(ish)
4x pictus cats
1x fire eel
