I was feeding my fish and I noticed that my two pictus catfish were starting to swim to the top, the only time this happens to me is if the filter breaks. I looked at them more closely and one of them had it looked like a white fungus on one of his gills, but the other one didnt. But on both of them there whiskers had shortened alot. After about two days my other pictus got the same white fungus on one gill. Now a couple days later the one pictus who got the fungus last grew his whiskers back, but the other didnt. Anyone know what this is so I can prevent it in the future. Oh yeah and the fungus on both of them is gone.

Might have a bacteria infection on top with the barbels shorting, any heavy breathing or flicking and rubbing on objcts, is the fungus fluffy, or long stringy stands of fungus.

Yeah I noticed they would swim really fast and then jus start to spaz out it seemed like. They didnt rub on objects though one of them just stayed in a cave for a really long time. The fungus wasnt long or stringy, it sounds more like fungus fluffy any info about that?

thanks for the link. but it wasnt really all over there bodies, just on one gill. Oh yeah and one of them looks really healthy now with the whiskers back and really long and no fungus, but the others whiskers are still really short.

It says in that article that it is common in livebeararers and catfish so i would say yes, good luck.
