Here is a couple pictures of my tank and a couple of the fish :)
My question is those stringers or whatever they are called coming from the plants, what do I do with them?

I am using some liquid fertalizer right now and have 4 wpg, but its a deep tank at 26"

The Advice I wanted was if there is anything special I need to do with a planted tank. And if there is a way to use the top half of the tank more, maybe some grassy plants? i dont know.

Just give it a sec, I have to go and alow hotlinking.

Wow, gorgeous pics. Your guppys are beautiful. I'm still reading about plants myself and have yet to put any into my tank. But if you think the top half is bare, maybe you should try some floating, hanging plats.

Hey guys,

new to this forum and i hope my advice im about to give makes sense and is helpful!! :S

Anyway, while browsing my lfs, i saw in their plant tanks a solution (possible anyway) to your empty top half of the tank!

They had bits of log attached to a sucker on one end which is then stuck to the side of the tank and planted on the log a variety of leafy plants! So u can stick them at any height u want i guess, obviously depening on the size of plant u got on it. i dunno if u get them in the UK, cos i reside in Denmark but i looked at these for the 1st time the other day!

Unfortunetly i dont have any pics!! :*)

Hope it makes sense! :hyper:

Swart.

Those are runners - peg them into the gravel & you'll get new baby plants. (a pebble on the runner will do the trick)
Vallis will fill in at the back ans should soon reach the top.

Can I cut them off? where I want them its hard to get them to with it still attached, or could I even leave them on htere a bit longer till the leaves are bigger?

Also they are a bit brown this morning compaired to at the lfs, is this normal? do I have to worry? is there something I should be doing?

Can I see weights on the foreground swords? -you need to remove them. Many plants are grown emersed and then when they get submerged in a tank you get browning of the old leaves - this could be the case with yours.

If you leave the babies until you see roots you can cut them off. If you hide a pot of gravel behind a rock & peg them into that it's easier to move them when needed.

there are no weights. They were potted when I bought them, took me like an hour to get all the foam stuff thats in the pots off the roots without damaging them.
I read that swords need to be planted with the roots in good, but the base of it has to be out of the substraight a bit. If I need to push them down a bit more it would be pretty easy (or well I think I would just add gravel as I think I need a couple handfulls more anyways).

If I just put a small rock on the runner will the little plants root them self and then break off the runner on their own?

Will the leaves come back to green pretty easy?

....as i said before id come back armed with pictures!!

so here are the things i was talking about!

Mobile fone pics so not the best but u can get the general eye deer!
