We have tried sinking pellets, frozen brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, shredded cooked shrimp (from the market), flakes... literally everything but the kitchen sink. We have read they like to eat live foods (fish) at dusk. What kind of live fish that is available at most LFS should we feed him? Also feeding a fish at dusk involves what? Do we turn the light off and feed? Can the live food live in 8.5ph with him? I hope he is just being finicky since he is relatively new and will snap out of it, but if not, what next?

cichlids can be very picky eaters i have found starving them a little always help them change diet from what they had in the shop to what i feed them.

I have never known a large carnivore turn down Krill - they love it. I think you've just found his staple diet.
