My husband just phoned to say that he has agreed to take two fish from a work colleague who is giving up his tank as he is moving house.

I asked what they were - he was told a Tiger Plec (but this thing is around 11 inches long and brown with black spots - doesn't sound very Tigery to me!!).
The other fish? A small one.

Scary isn't it. Luckily I have a tank that the plec can go in, and I have a selection of different tanks (normal community to cichlids) so hopefully should be able to house the 'small fish'.

Isn't it scary that people can keep these things without knowing anything about them???

i got a tank from a colleague who didn't want it anymore, her descriptions of the fish were along the lines of a yellow one, a blue one....

unsurprisingly when i got there the tank was horrendously stocked and fish were half dead :/ poor things

good luck with yours, please quarantine them before adding them to your tanks, if the people with them don't even know what they are chances are they don't know how to care for them either

Back again after collecting fish. Really surprised, because the initial conversation sounded like we were dealing with a bit of a dipstick.

But, the tank was lovely and clean, and the fish were in great condition.

The plec was a common, and so strong it was like trying to land a great white shark trying to get him in the net!!

The 'small' fish was a tetra thingy (see - I don't know either!) - it looks like a white tip, same shape, but has a red tail and its dorsal and lower fin have white/black stripe across. Very pretty.

He loves being with my lot, after sharing his tank with just the plec.

We even ended up with the tank, the stand, spare pumps, food, filters, battery vacuum, the lot!!

Oh, just realised. That makes it tank number 9. Definitely running out of space now!
