basically im going to buy a nice red male cuppy and about 2 females would i need a red female for the fry to come out like the male or will they just come out totally diferent or doesnt it matter what female i put with him?

the female fry will come end up being pretty much the same colour as the mum. and the male will end up being pretty much the same colour as the dad. thats what i've been told before but the source wasn't that good.

Guppy genetics is a massive subject, breeding from shop fish is a very difficult as knowing the genetic history is impossible, and the females have probably crossed with other males.

Even crossing two red fish they may have different parentage thus resulting in a mixed bag of fry with almost anything. However if you buy from a breeder then your be sure to know that your get true red fish and almost all the fry will be red in colouration.

Thats brill info thank you! Does anybody no of any guppy breeders?

If your in the UK then next week their's a big show in Nottingham where this is 250 pairs of show quality guppies from all over the world being shipped in,most are then sold on at the end from £3 to £100 a pair in an auction.
These are much better tham shop fish and are sold in true pairs so they will breed true.

Last year i got some stunnig pin tail guppies for only £3 which I'm now breeding.

Im not far away from nottingham. Im in rotherham, i dont want to spend loads tbh but would like Just want a couple of trios etc so when i breed them the fry dont come out multi coloured etc! Is there anywhere when i can read about this auction please

Thanks again 1 more thing, do they sell guppies at the sales table on the saturday?

Yes there are fish for sale Saturday/Sunday.

The auction is best though as you get the show fish thats been on display which is on the Sunday afternoon.
