I've been noticing this white stuff that floats at the top of my tank. They are usually in clusters of about 10. It doesn't do anything and it doesnt move, although it floats. I dont know where it comes from or what it is. Can you guys identify it?

Thanks !

snails eggs? im guessing that a planted tank wif a leavin floatin if its jellylike kill it unlesss u want a army of snails

Snail eggs are usually incased in some kind of jelly and usually is on glass or on plants. I don't know of any snails that lay eggs to make them float. It makes it too easy for them to be eaten.

Looks like grains of salt or sand. What kind of substrate are you using?

its not snail eggs although i do have snails in the tank. This does not have a jelly coat over them. The substrate i am using is kitty litter. I've had kitty liter for almost a year now and this just recently started showing up. It is pretty soft to the touch and every single one of them is uniform and exactly the same. I'm thinking its some type of egg, but, it doesnt do anything but float. Its just that when i take out like 100 of them, the next morning will pop up another 100.

I dont get it.

here's another shot

It's from the kitty litter. They must have changed the formula. If you look at the litter with a magnifying glass you will probably see very small grains of this stuff. I would take a couple spoonsful of the litter and put it in a glass of water. Let it sit a few days and see what happens.

Good luck.
