just wondering are betas and guppies from same family or something they look similar

not even close. bettas are anabantids, they have a labyrinth organ that allows them to breath atmospheric air rather than dissolved oxygen, and they are egg layer. i don't know what family guppies are a part of but they do not have labyrinth organs and they are livebearers.

i don't really think they look at all alike beyond the placement of the mouth which is typical of surface dwelling fish.
