Hi folks,
After a few weeks of little news, during which time I have been mostly changing water, rearranging plants, and standing by helplessly for what seemed like ages while my LFS staff tried to catch my purchases, I am now pleased to post some pictures of my first tank. The fishless cycle has been finished for 3 weeks, and having followed the advice I received here I have a sucessful aquarium with no mess, hasty water changes or casualties. All my desired fish are in, as the following photos and my sig will show.
Happy snapping.....
1) General tank set-up - the driftwood is coated with a white algae that the Otos are lapping up
2) Harlequin - these little buggers are impossible to photograph. I have 8 and would thoroughly recommend them in these numbers as a great shoaling fish (why go for tetras when these guys are nowhere near as shy?)
3) Male Krib - slightly larger than the female. I was amazed at how quickly the Kribs got their colour once I had them settled. When I gave them some flake, the red colour on the male's fins appeared instantly!
4) Female Krib - with telltale pink belly
5) Both Kribs checking out the small cave I have provided
6) Otocinclus - I put these 3 in last, fearing some sensitivity to the water, but they have been having a great time clearing the driftwood of algae and remaining steadfast in the face of a bit of grandstanding from the Kribs. Now they have claimed one of the two pieces of driftwood as their own leaving the Kribs to the other.
7) Oto close-up - unlike the Harlequins, these catfish are a dream to photograph, they stay still for 20-30mins!
Cheers
Ian
