Hey Guys

This might sound like a silly question but would a phosphate remover harm aquarium plants? I'm having a little trouble with certain types of algae in my planted community tank and am considering adding a phosphate remover to the filter to help get rid of it but just wandered if it will harm the plants in the process?

Cheers Guys

Hi Tim. It won't harm your plants but high PO4 is not the cause of algae in a heavily planted tank. If your tank is not densely planted then PO4 remover may help.

Hiya Mate

Thanks for your reply.
It's not that heavily planted. Kind of medium planted! If that makes sense!!

I think i'll try the PO4 remover then and see if it makes any difference.
Cheers

What is you current P level? I used to have a tank that was easily 2/3ppm PO4 and it never got algae, also only have 2 plants in it. I used to use P removers and they never really worked and cost me a small fortune to buy. The best way to keep P down is to under-stock with fish but that's not always easy to do!
