Spishkey
Spishkeys Turtle Rescue
not sure if these are for sale in the uk yet, but they've recently been released over here...yet ive not come across anyone whos tried them. im not sure i understand the process though, does it release a chemical into the water to turn nitrite/nitrate/ammonia into harmless substances or am i missing the point? not sure id be happy dosing my aquarium daily with something! is this claiming to cut out the need for weekly water changes? (says you will need to only perform 2 yes TWO water changes per year??) surely they are still required whatever you add to the tank! i just cant see how they are useful? and claiming to eliminate fish diseases (fungi, parasites etc...) and what is the ozone process?
am i right in thinking this is another gimmick to appeal to new aquarium keepers who will think they will need to do less maintenance/cleaning? or have i read it wrong and it is actually useful? (comes in two sizes, smaller ones are €130, bigger ones are €150
Welcome to the Philips Aquarium Purifier
After 3 years of testing, the Philips Aquarium Purifier showed very effective for the purification of aquariums with a volume between 50 and 110 gallons. It imitates the function of nature. Ozone (O3) is generated during thunderstorms and purifies water and air. The device provides minimal and safe doses ozone to the water, which turns organic waste, bacteria and viruses into harmless residues. Once in the water, the ozone is converted into oxygen and therefore it won’t be released in the air.
You can expect the following results:
- Crystal clear water
- Minimal maintenance, water changes only 2 times a year*
- Reducing fouling of algae
- Improved and stimulating effect of the nitrogen cycle in the water
- No toxic nitrite-peaks at startup
- Reduction of diseases caused by viruses and bacteria
Installation is very simple and explained in a clear multilingual manual.
Originally this is an European device for 220 volts. This package includes a US-set, especially for 110 volts.
The Philips Aquarium Purifier is the solution for less maintenance and you will experience more fun to your aquarium!
Also suitable for your seawater aquarium!
* = depending on amount of fish and feeding
Can ozone (O3) damage my health?
If you’ve installed all the components, exactly as described in the manual, ozone doesn’t damages your pets or your health. If you’ve inhaled ozone (example: wrong installation), make sure you don’t have any complaints. Else, consult your doctor.
What’s in the box?
The box contains:
- Aquarium Purifier
- AC power adapter
- Aerator (air-pump)
- Connection-kit
- 110-230 volts inverter
- Euro-plug 2-way
What’s the power-usage?
Aquarium Purifier: 0.9W
The Aerator (air-pump): 11W
Can I connect my Purifier on my protein skimmer?
Many protein skimmers have an extra air input, where you can connect your Purfier.
Do I hear the Purifier?
Normally the Purifier doesn’t produces much sound. If your air-pump produces sound, please make sure that there’s no gravel or dirt in the rotor.
Is the purifier capable of making the turbid water of a dirty aquarium clear again, or do I have to refresh the water first before installing the purifier?
Depending on the amount of dirt present in the water, the purifier can make the water clear again.
The purifier is unsuitable for stabilizing an aquarium with none or little, filtration or an aquarium without plants, gravel or other ground cover.
I hear a crackling sound from within the purifier when I put my ear to it
This is normal. What you hear is the electrical (corona) discharge inside the purifier
