I've read the handbooks (Baensch etc), so I feel I know the basics- but I would like the personal input, if anyone has experience. What are these fish actually like to keep? How do they get on with others? How easy-going are they? Did you like them?

Also if anyone has done blue limias?

Also heterandria formosa (I know you have, Annastasia).

I haven't kept Phallocerus personally, but I do know from other that your success will depend on whether the fish are a brackish water population or not. I'd certainly keep them in a tank where adding salt was an option. When kept in fresh water, the brackish water populations tend to be sickly.

Cheers,

Neale

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. Don't want to repeat the black molly disaster of my youth.

Whereabouts do the brackish populations come from? Baensch does not mention any separate brackish populations, though he does suggest adding a moderate amount of salt; he seems to think their main problem is inabibility to adapt to changing water conditions, though ( so small frequent water changes, rather than occasional large ones).

Do you suppose they would be able to tell at Trimar if their phalloceroi came from a freshwater or brackish background?
