Hi, Before going to be my Ph was 6.2,

I turned the light off over night and left the Co2 running to see what sort of PH swing I'd get

to my suprise it went up to 7.8!! shouldn't it have gone down rather than up....

Theoretically the PH should have gone down (below7) when the lights were turned off. All I could think would be if there was some major surface turbulence happening at night, or your test kit is not reading correctly.

yeah dont make sense how it had risen up.
disturbance was same all night as was the day.

I'm going to test it later before going to bed see what it throws up.

p.s Sorry meant to post this in new to hobby not in this thread :p

I moved your thread to the New to the hobby forum so hopefully hou will get more feedback. It is strage that it would go up. Are you sure that both test were correct? Have you added anything new to the tank (rocks in particular) that could have caused the change? Does the pH generally run around the 6.2 reading you got before bed? Last but not least, how are the fish doing? A pH swing that large would normaly be causing problems for the fish.

Thanks for moving my thread.

Well its allways sitting at around 6.2 (no fish in the tank yet *Still*)

I have recently changed over to using a fire extinguisher because my other bottle ran out.
and its at 7.4 now and not shifting I'm going to do another test in the morning and see what it sits at,

then I'll do one night with if off over night :/

as this is my final step before having so fish..

Not added any new rock , the tanks still the same as it was in my journal.
