No Laughing....

When you feed, are you turning off your filter and skimmer....I am..
Are you turning your ph's off too???

Recently, I decided to turn off my ph during feeding to ensure food is dropping onto my polyps....Well, my sweep appears to be frozen. I'm going to take it out tonight and cleaning it, maybe something is jamming it up.

Can you give me some of your experiences with turning your hardware off and on throught out the day.....i don't know, i 've got the feeling that maybe the ph should stay on indefinately.

Whacha think??

Hi kimpossible

ive never really turned anything of during feeding, i see your selection of polyps and the only ones that really need feeding are your yellow polyps the others feed off light and dont really need feeding, i had some yellow polyps that lasted 2 months then started dying and i was feeding them with brine shrimp every other day so u dont really know what to feed them, your sweeping power head is it made by eden by any chance?

is that like zooplex if it is no i would not turn anything of as anything that eats i will catch it avetually just like they do in the wild and if it goes in the filter im sure there will be some pods willing to eat it :)

Nope never turn off anything.. i just let the turbulance finds its way around the tank with regards feeding any corals.
Most corals do not require feeding so i would not try to direct feed them. If you ever do have corals that need this (like your yellows) then get a turkey baster and squirt the food onnto the polyp.

In the ocean the turbulance doesnt stop at dinner time, why should it stop in your tank either :p ;)

as far as your powerhead goes. the booklet that I have says, regular cleaning of th pump, rotor, the pump chamber is strongly recommended (duh thanks booklet) stongly recommended to remove and debris and lime-scale build up. to do so try using luke warm water and a non metallic brush. is need so soak the pump in lemon or vinegar for a few minutes. clean and wash throughly after.

customer service number is toll free 1-888-496-6633 mon-friday 8am-5pm pacific standard time.

home this helps.

Calcium buildup in the impeller column and on the impeller will cause pumps in reef tanks to seize, or not turn back on when you shut them off. Happens to some brands more than others and can be a b%!*& to fix.

Let sit in warm water + vinegar for an hour or so then use cleaning brushes to get off what you can then try to get it started and let run overnight in the bucket.

What brand ph?

What brand is it? Might save you the trouble. Some won't recover.

Zoo Med, doesn't seem like many know this brand...but , when i upraded my lights that was the brand of the bulb i had, so they must be makin' tank assessories.

Wednesdays are hectic for the family so...no soaky last night. I let you know Friday if it worked tonight.

:flex:

Those are the powersweeps, no? IIRC 50-50 on getting that thing working again.

I forget your setup. Is your tank drilled, do you have a sump? If your only circulation option is in-tank, then I'd recommend, if this doesn't get going again, one of the Seio pumps. I don't have one yet, just waiting for my Gemini to die or my summer upgrade project, whichever comes first.

You'd only need one of the small ones, the 620 or 820. Now is a good time to find them used as they just released several other sizes and many are upgrading to 1100s, 1500s, etc. Check out RC for used Seios or, maybe, ebay. But the 620s new are under $40 so you might just go that route.

Lots more flow, lots better for corals.

no sump on this tank...just the powersweep(I thought ph with a sweep)
yeah.... I originally had a Seio 620, but i was afraid of all the movement. I thought it was too much for a 55. so i went with a 226   ....but hey, i'm a newbie....whacha think????

No such thing as too much flow. Seio would be great in there IMO.

I also never turn pumps or filters off. Some do so out of worry that the food will go to waiste. No worries by me, something will get eventually get the food weather it be a zoo, mushroom, fish, feather, or good bacteria.
