The last time I went to a corporate petstore, all the store sold was veil tail bettas. I have a petco and a petsmart near me, the petco being the closest. Do either store provide a different selection of bettas besides the veil tails? do they offer females?

Petsmart has VT and CT they also have females. I saw a little double tail female there today. Petco has halfmoon, delta, crown and veil. They had female veil, and crown tails lastweek. Every once in awhile I will find a plaket males being sold as females.

It depends on the store and the breeders available. My lfs only carries VT and CT. I have found the best way to get bettas is to get mislabeled ones at walmart. I find DT at walmart all the time for $2.00 just labeled as female betta.

Easiest to find odd bettas at Walmart, got a steel blue DT once, some petcos sell deltas or such. My local Petsmart doesn't sell females.

Females have a protruding white "stem", correct? That's how you tell the difference between a plakat and a female, correct?

Yes you will see the little white ovipositer on the female it is much easier to see on a dark fish. The females will have stripes usually too and a fuller upper body. The females are great to they get an attitude just like the males and mine is more curious than the males.

two of my 3 pk males were found being sold as females, one cost me £1.99 the other i swaped for some young plattys
