Persuade Me

hi

for a betta i suggest you use a 2 gallon minimum. with a 6 gallon you could keep them with a placid shoaling specie such as neon tetra.

pros, relativly easy fish to look after
they look great
come in a wide variety of colours,

cons, males cant be kept together same for females unless they have a 20gallonish planted tank.
fins are an easy target for fin nippers.
cant really be housed with any other labrynth fish or any thing with large fins or tails ie guppie.

hope this helps :good:

Can you give me pros and cons and epdsuade me .

- should i keep one betta in a 6 gallon hexagonal
or could i squeeze int wo (the 1 i want to do) :good:

I would have said a Betta and possibly a cory, but Hex aquariums seem to be taller so the cory wouldn't have much tank floor to patrol.

Still, its quite alot of space for a betta and you could deffo decorate it with alot of live plants to make it look nice, and create a pretty aquascape, perhaps with a theme?

Just to let you know, I tried putting some neon's in with Boris my Betta, who has been with me for 5 weeks now. He's in a 6 gallon tank and I keep thinking he must be lonely in there, so after some research I thought, I know I'll put my remaining 3 neon's in with him (did have 5 but have recently lost 2).

He went beserk, chased them round the tank like a loon for about 3 minutes, really flared up, he calmed down when they hid in the cave, but the minute he caught sight of them, he just went after them, so I hooked them out and put them back in my main tank, and have now decided perhaps he doesn't mind his own company!!!!

Although he's still really mad at me, all the times I've gone near the tank even to feed him, he's flared at me!!

You shouldnt put bettas with neons as neons ar fin nippers and will rip him to shreads

Okay what goes woth bettas things like neons or halrequins btu not them or i'm thinking just to get two bettas in a divided 6 gallon is 3 gallons each enough?

It's plenty of water space, but you have to consider the shape of the tank. If it's a wide hex, then it would be ideal to divide up for bettas. If it's tall, I'd suggest giving the divider a miss. The betta should have a horizontal area in the tank that is at least three times his length on both sides... hard to explain so I'll post a diagram in a moment. But anyway... to exaggerate what I mean, it's kind of like getting one of those really tall candle flutes with a diameter of about 10cm and about a metre tall. They hold quite a lot of water, certainly enough water for one betta, but are totally unsuitable as betta homes because of their shape.

Don't see why not... do you have a pic of the tank? As long as it is not too tall i don't see why you can't divide it. I'd keep 2 boys though, they are prettier :p

Kk but i was thinking for if i ever wanted to try breeding.

I wouldn't do two in that one. Too tall. just keep one really stunning betta in that if I were you.
