EDIT: Just to update on this situation.

I have continued treatment but the problem is worse than ever. The fish is stil acting normally however it seems that its insides are comming out through the eye socket. I dont have a photo right now but imagine if my brain was comming out of my eye and you wont be far wrong. there is by all accounts a working eye on the end of this mush. Could it be a brain tumour? any ideas please?

It could be an injury.

Bacterial med. Whats your location.
Sadly it's sounding like the fish is losing it's eye.

What type of fish do you have in the tank.
How many gallons is the tank.
What test kit are you using.

The neon was the red stripe area still vibrant red.

thanks so much for your reply i've got home from work now so i have taken a photo of the poor fish on my phone.

im using API Melafix in the tank which a 200L tank and live in harrow,London. as for the neon looked like it had normal colours but i didnt really look too carefully at that aspect so i cant be sure. When testing the water i use tetra 6- in -1 dip sticks.

I noticed today a slight redness appearing at the base of the white matter which is at the base of the eyeball or the actual eyeball itself .

The eye is bad. Get you some info.

Test strip cards are not accurate. Liquids test kits are the best.

Add some anti internal bacteria med by interpet. melafix is no good on its own.

thanks again for your reply, i will have to get that medicine tomorrow. just to clarify please:

should i use the internal bacteria med along side melafix or just the anti internal med on its own?

also from the link you posted, is it pop eye or tiberculosis as im feel that the eye is going to fall out.

Poor thing.

Just dilute the melafix down with a water change before you add the interpet med.
You can use melafix with other bacterial meds.

It's hard to say fish tb without showing other symtoms.
it could of been an injury.
Fish can survive with just one eye. But need excellent water quality.

Thanks again for your help and advise, I really hope it can survive and live normally and that it was just an injury and nothing more sinister or hard to treat/infectious. I'll post an update if anything of significance happens.

Poor thing.

It could be a tumour, internal parasites can cause brain damage.Any fluid coming out.

I don't know what to suggest. Never seen it before.
My first instinct would be to put the fish out of it's misery.

Is it possible to load a pic up.

If he's not in isslation, I would issolate him.

i'll upload a picture at about 10am tomorrow morning if it fancies posing for me! I dont possess the ability to isolate and as far as i can tell there is no fluid or liquid from the eye. thankfully as yet no other fish are symptomatic.

Its not sounding to hopeful.
I would use the internal bacteria med aswell.
Stop teh melafix now.
Just do a water change and add the med.

ok i'll do that, got some builders round today but once they have finished I'll pop to the pet shop.

here are some photos which im not sure capture the full extent but its the best i can do(not the clearest but he was pretty active this morning) In comparison to the first photo i posted above you can see that the growth matter is larger and softer.

thanks again wilder you've been a star.

Never seen anything like it before.
Poor thing.
I think I would try the anti internal bacteria med.
If no improvement in a weeks time I would put him out of his misery.
It could be a tumour.
Bless his little heart. So Sad.

thanks i'm about to do a water change and then i'll start the new med.
I really appreciate your help.
Gary
