Penguin 200

I need some suggestions for using a Penguin 200 without the standard filter cartridge. I'm suspecting that the carbon is soaking up my plant fertilizers so I want to set it up with just some filter media without the carbon. I've tried just sticking a pad in there but I had trouble getting it to stay. It always wanted to float up or get sucked into bio-wheel.

Just make a horizontal cut at the top of the blue filter wool then empty out the carbon.
