I am interested in the Pelvicachromis Subocellatus but am a little confused as to exactly what it is. I have been searching online and some pictures show it as a regular Krib while in others it looks completely different and much more colourful.

I'd really like if someone could direct me to a page with a picture and correct information on them. Also any advice anyone has on keeping them. i would like to get a pair (if they are what i think they are) to add to my 50 gallon stocked with the fish in my sig.

Thanks!

Wow they're nice, I didn't realise they were african though. Can they go with s. american cichlids? Also can i fit a pair in my set up (below)?

Thanks :good:

Pelvicachromis subocellatus are a type of krib, same genus different species. They grow to the same size and breed the same as a normal kribensis. They will be fine with your current fish. They come from a range of locations and each habitat has its own colour form. I personally think the moanda form is the nicest. The females get a bright pink belly with a silver white edging when breeding.
Male kribs are never as nice as the females, which is the opposite of most fishes.

You may find that the kribs take a dislike to some of your bottom feeders, but provided there is plenty of cover they shouldn't be too troublesome

you might find aswell that they will munch your shrimps for dinner. I had 12 shrimps in a community tank with my kribs....then there were none.

My tank is pretty well planted and my shrimp are fully grown (around 2 inches each) so they should be ok... now the real question is where do I get hold of these fish?!?!

Also if I got 2 females would this sort the aggression issue?

Ask your lfs to order some in when they are available.
just get a pr. The spare female might get bullied.

I meant only 2 females and not a male... is that possible?

you can get 2 females but they might pr up and lay eggs. Then they will defend the territory just like a male and female pr. Most people by M & F prs so they can breed them and get young. They will also cross breed with normal kribs so you could get mongral fish that you can't sell.
