I'm having some strange probably with one of my tanks. It's a 2.5 gallon that I keep one of my bettas in. I've had my betta isolated to treat some fin rot so i cleaned out his tank and put fresh water in it to see what would happen without the betta in there. After a day or two, this white film developed on the top the of the water like it always has, does anyone have any idea what this could be from?

anyone?

A white film can sometimes be from protein buildup, you can remove it by placing a paper towel on there surface and letting it absorb the film. You will have to do this every couple days though, in a larger tank fish like swordtails and platies will eat it.

Thanks! so it's not harmful at all?

can slightly block oxygen exchange but bettas are labyrinth fish so it should be ok. Happens all the time in my saltwater tank.

Nope it shouldn't harm the fish at all :) . If it really bothers you, you could put in a airstone in the tank and it should get rid of the film.

yes but also remember the side effects of an airstone in a betta tank :), they dont like current.
