Hey all, I'm setting up a 5gallon backwater biotope, but I'm having some difficulties lowering my Ph. I'm planning on buying some peat moss today as Walmart has a big bag of it for only $4.27. I was wondering though, where do I put the moss in the tank? Do I put it down at the bottom of the tank? Or do I place it in the filter?

You add it to the filter.
I would sterlise it first by steaming it, to make sure there no parasites in it.

Soak it for a time in a bucket. Get a pair of ladies tights and cut one leg off. Place peat in the leg you've just cut off tie the open end in a knot and squeeze out the access water. place contents in the microwave and zap it for 30 seconds to steralise it. Then place the peat laden stocking into your filter chamber and thats it.

Make sure you get ladies tights and not mens tights

lol Thanks much guys, I'm buying the peat moss tomorrow, or the following Monday. I hope it works, but I'm not going to use stockings (ladies tights), my work actually sells the bags, so I plan to use those.

Now that I know where to put the moss, do I keep it there and change it up monthly like I would the filter caterage? Or is it permanetly there??

but wouldn't the wate eventually become harder over a period of time?
